Becoming a Coach PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 06 April 2007

The great news is that anyone can become a coach! Yes, that means even you! The only requirements are that you be at least 18 years old on the day of the tournament, and attend a training session annually, as described below.

Coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team can be as frustrating or as rewarding as you make it to be. Yes, there is work involved, but it's a great way to spend lots of "quality time" with your kids. Many coaches keep coaching even after their own kids have moved on! Many teams are coached by teachers, and others interested in youth organization leadership.

ALL Coaches (new and returning) MUST attend a training session. Two training sessions are available for your convenience. If you are a returning coach, you need to attend the afternoon session only. First time coaches must attend both morning and afternoon session. Please see the right hand side of this page under "Upcoming Events" for the dates of the training sessions. Online registration will be available soon.

If you are unable to attend either of the Silicon Valley Coach Training sessions, you may attend one of the SF Bay Area training sessions. This is a less preferred alternative (because you will miss Silicon Valley specific information, and receive information pertaining to SF Bay Region which could be confusing), so please use it as a last resort only. The available training session dates, and sign up information, can be found on their website: http://sfbayodysseyofthemind.org.

Take a look at the Coaching Resources section for more information on what to do as a coach.
